There are many different ways to describe a network. Some of them focus on individuals (nodal network descriptors), some focus on entire networks (structural network descriptors), and some focus on groups of people, but not the entire network (subgroup properties). Each of these different types of measure has different uses and applications.
Nodal network descriptors focus on the centrality of nodes within the network.
Structural network descriptors describe the network as a whole.
Subgroup properties identify closely-related nodes, which share similar properties.
